Discussion:
He is marked with a red circle on the Census image below. Hugh married Betsy (maiden name unknown) likely before 1802, when Henry Monteith, their first son, was born. Another son, John Monteith, was born c. 1810, so he must be the second "male under age 10" in this enumeration. Their daughter Phoebe (or Phebe) was born in 1809. NOTE: Betsy must have died before 1827, because at about that time Hugh married his second wife, Hannah Montgomery (born c. 1790), who gave Hugh his third son, Robert H., in 1827. |
