Robert McNay, age 21 (= born c. 1829), birthplace listed
as unknown, although his later Civil War records cite Logan County, Ohio.
He is a tailor living in the home of George W. Tower,
who is also a tailor.
Because he is not yet married, owns no real property, and resides in the
family home of a somewhat older man, Robert is likely either an apprentice
or a journeyman associated with his more established colleague.
They were clearly located near the center of town — note that neighbors
include the sheriff, a clerk, a potter, a cabinet maker, and a school teacher.
And of some interest, Sheriff McDowell and his deputy/son Francis live
together and are providing jail space for two men then in custody,
a painter named Silas Tilton and a German immigrant farmer named Nicholas
Wolf.
