John H. Tennis, age 47 (= born c. 1833),
a farmer born in Ohio, both parents born in Ohio, with:
wife Sarah C. (Faught) Tennis,
age 52 (= born c. 1828), born in Tennessee, both parents born in
Georgia, "keeping house." Note that in her "disability" column appears
"enlarged spl," which must mean an enlarged spleen. She can
read, but not write — not uncommon in those years when people were
taught to read the Bible, but had little paper to use in practicing the
mechanical skills of legible writing. Often, writing was limited to
one's own name.
Also in the household are:
William Albert Tennis, a son,
age 23 (= born c. 1857), a (farm) laborer, born in Missouri;
Fannie Tennis, a daughter, age 17 (= born c. 1863), born in
Missouri,
Lillie E. Tennis, a daughter, age 14 (= born c. 1866),
born in Missouri,
John R(ufus) Tennis, a son, age 8 (= born c. 1872), born in
Missouri, and
a child niece, Raine L. Inman, age 4 (= born c. 1876), born
in Tennesse, both parents born in Tennessee.
