   King Family Photographs
Tennis  /  Mills   Genealogy

Alas, few King photographs are known to be extant.

However, this is an undated photograph of William Robert King (1866 - 1967), who lived in Madison County, Missouri, to the ripe old age of 101.
Its likely date is in the mid- to late 1880s.
Sally (Salley, Sallie, Sarah) King
(1864  >  1938) — daughter of Eli Alexander King and Missouri Reed.

As far as known, these are the only extant photographs of Sally.

To the left, she appears to be in her late 20s or early 30s, so its date would be in the 1890s.

The sepia-toned photo to the left is undated, but must have been taken in 1918, when she was in her early 50s.

1918 seams reasonable, because written in green ink on the margin is "Mother & Robert" — referring to the very over-exposed child in the foreground, her grandson Robert Albert Wagner.  The boy seems to be about two, and he was born in April 1916 to Sally's daughter Lula Belle (Beck) Wagner.

Because Sally is called "Mother," this note could have been written only by one of her three daughters:  Lula Belle, Anna, or Edna Estelle Beck.

In a different hand (and likely written at a later time) is her married name, "Sally Beck."

Here is a somewhat enlarged excerpt of Sally alone:

In 2011, these items were in the possession of Sally's great-grandson Billy Eugene Wagner II.

Left:  The 19th Century King family patriarch, Samuel Marion King — 1835 - 1918
Right:  and his second wife, Sarah (Stephens) (Berry) King — 1850 - 1939.

(Samuel Marion King was Sally King's paternal uncle.)
These two photographs were derived in 2008, with appreciation, from the book
McClard / McLard / McLaird and Related Families 1767 - 1996
by Violet LaVerne (King) Kennedy, et al., (9th Edition, 1996), pp 250ff;  Ozark Regional Library, Fredericktown, Missouri.
Note:  Violet LaVerne is Samuel's great-granddaughter by his first wife, Mary A. (Stephens) King.
